Job Training & Programs
OIC of South Florida is an affiliate of one of the largest educational, employment training and placement, human capacity-building, industrial and community development organizations in America and abroad. Our Programs & Training are designed specifically to meet your individual needs.
OIC was started when Rev. Leon Sullivan and 400 Baptist ministers began a program of "Selective Patronage" with their congregations. It was a silent revolution that made industries take notice and create the change needed to get people jobs. The premise was simple..."Don't buy where you can't work!" This opened many doors for people, however, they needed the training to keep the jobs that were now being offered to them. Opportunities Industrialization Centers was born out of this need for training in an old rundown jailhouse and continues today with 44 affiliates throughout the United States and 18 internationally.
Youth and Family Services
OIC of South Florida's youth and family services include a 5-year Teen Pregnancy Prevention program through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, a 5-year 21st Century Community Learning Centers academic and personal enrichment grant through the Florida Department of Education, and several youth career development programs supported through WorkForce One, the local workforce board. OIC looks forward to continuing to build upon these resources and partnerships to offer community residents the opportunity for career development and self-sufficiency.
OIC of South Florida (formerly OIC of Broward County) was reestablished in 2001 and has provided services to the South Florida community serving almost 4,500 adults and youth per year. Recently expanded throughout South Florida, OIC is doing business as OIC of South Florida. The mission of OIC of South Florida is to be the community-based leader in providing quality self-help skills and employment opportunities for disadvantaged and underemployed residents, thus assisting them to become self-sufficient and productive members of society.
(OIC) of South Florida is a community-based workforce, job development and training center that focuses on the unemployed and underemployed, the unskilled or insufficiently skilled and those with barriers to self-sufficiency due to past indiscretions in their background. Our goal is give everyone the opportunity to realize their potential; to offer a "Hand UP" not a hand out.
We offer programs and services that provide you with the skills you need to not just find a job, but to keep a job.
